Don't miss the exhibition "Sharing Beauty - 15 Years of Acquisitions at the Fabre Museum" from December 15, 2021 to March 6, 2022!
This winter, the Musée Fabre is offering an exhibition devoted to the ambitious policy of enriching its collections, carried out for more than fifteen years, the result of the commitment of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, supported by the State and the Occitanie Region. Many patrons, such as the Friends of the Fabre Museum or the Corporate Foundation, but also private donors, artists or collectors, also join forces each year to acquire new major works.
Unfolding in the museum's temporary exhibition rooms, the route offers a vast journey through the history of art, from the 17th century to contemporary art, showing works by international artists as well. as major figures of the Montpellier scene, masters of the past as well as living artists, famous painters as well as artists in full rediscovery. Painting, sculpture, drawing and decorative arts, all mediums and all techniques combine to offer a rich and stimulating visit, like the collections of the Fabre museum as a whole.
Rich in more than a hundred works, the exhibition reveals the main axes of acquisitions developed by the Fabre museum over the last fifteen years: from Italian collections to the unique universe of Jean Hugo, from the French Grand Siècle around the figure of Sébastien Bourdon with southern landscapes, a source of inspiration always renewed since the 19th century, this event will also honor the artists who are patrons of the museum, from its founder François-Xavier Fabre, to contemporary artists, who will be dedicated the last room of the course. A series of conferences will explore these different topics.
