Montpellier's faculty of medicine is an extraordinary place: it houses the Conservatory of Anatomy, which has almost 5,600 anatomical parts and wax models used for teaching.
Built at the end of the 18th century, it has some surprising collections: anatomical parts (dissections, pathological anatomy, etc.), casts and wax models (cancerous and venereal lesions), various items relating to anthropology, embryology, malformations, pathology and skeletons, and surgical instruments. They are exhibited in display cases or in the 60 m long by 15 m high gallery.
The collections in the Montpellier Conservatory of Anatomy were listed as historical monuments in 2004.
