The Via Domitia was the first Roman road built in Gaul, to link Italy and Hispania, in the 2nd Century BC, across what is now southern France.
Nowadays, you can still view a very small section of the ancient roman road in Castelnau-le-Lez, near the “La garrigue” and “Le Devois” area, in the grass land. You can access the section by the Via Domitia Tram Stop.
The site is protected as Monuments Historiques since 1987.
Protected elements: Via Domitia (section) (i.e. B 22 to 25; A 567 to 570, 572, 573, 5404 to 5406, 5408): listed in the order of 5 February 1987. Construction periods: Antiquity. Property of a private individual.
