Site archéologique, 34570 Murviel-lès-Montpellier
The Castellas hill site at Murviel-lès-Montpellier was the location of an important ancient settlement from the late iron age up to the 2nd century BC. The settlement comprised a high town and a low town surrounded by nearly 2 km of monumental walls, the north section of which can still be seen. Different ruins have been uncovered by a series of digs and these are open to the public. These include surrounding walls, a tower, doors, a monumental square, dwellings and artisans’ premises. Paths that have been laid by the district authorities allow you to explore the ruins for free and at your own pace, while enjoying an exceptional panoramic view over Montpellier and its surrounding area.
