To mark World Wetlands Day, the commune of Le Crès is relaying and highlighting the discovery walk proposed by SYMBO, on Saturday January 31 from 10am to 12pm, along the banks of the Salaison.
Popular with walkers, joggers and families alike, the banks of the Salaison offer a much-appreciated natural setting, thanks in particular to the footpath on the right bank of the river.
But do we really know the history and riches of this emblematic site in Le Crès?
Do you know, for example, how drinking water was supplied to the inhabitants of Le Crès in the 19th century? Can you recognize the birds, insects and flowers that inhabit the banks of the Salaison?
Can you guess the age of the rocks you walk on, or the economic activities that have historically developed around the river?
To answer these questions, SYMBO, in partnership with Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and the commune of Le Crès, has designed an educational discovery trail, created in collaboration with site users and local stakeholders.
The trail features 10 interpretation panels, spread over 2 kilometers of riverbank, starting from the Lac Jean-Marie Rouché parking lot.
This guided walk is fully in line with the partners? missions:
? SYMBO, a syndicat mixte, leads and coordinates public action in water management and biodiversity preservation throughout the region.
? Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole is involved in the restoration and maintenance of waterways and their riparian zones, as part of its GEMAPI remit.
? The commune of Le Crès wishes to use this tool to raise awareness among residents and users of the need to understand and preserve this river, at the heart of a much-visited natural site
