A program entirely devoted to musical complicity and instrumental dialogue, led by Andris Poga, one of the most gifted Latvian conductors of his generation, winner of the 2010 Svetlanov conducting competition in Montpellier.
In P?teris Vasks? Musica serena, the strings engage in intimate meditation and dialogue as if they were a single, perfectly coordinated instrument, reacting to the conductor?s slightest gesture. In the Sinfonia concertante, a new work by the Franco-Argentinian composer Strasnoy, Alexandre Tharaud and Jean-Guihen Queyras invent a daring game of mirrors, at times fusing through unsettling unisons, at other times competing in rhythmic jousts. In the midst of this conversation between concerto and symphony, the orchestra becomes a third partner, reacting to every phrasing. Finally, Dvo?ák?s Symphony No. 5 reveals its Czech roots, from the folk dances of the scherzo to the incredible rhythmic energy of the finale. Poga and the orchestra underline its warm colors and springtime vitality.
