Between August 23 and 26, 1942, meticulously prepared operations to "round up" foreign Jews took place in the unoccupied zone. In 1943, this type of operation was repeated on a regional scale, targeting foreign workers. How were these mass arrests organized in the Hérault region? Who was in charge? Who enabled certain Jews to escape from the police? These are just some of the questions that will be addressed to shed light on this dark period in history.
Elisabeth Perrier, in charge of documentary studies, has been working for several years on the archives of the "dark years" in Hérault.
In connection with the exhibition "Vivre la guerre en Hérault, 1939-1945" presented at Pierresvives from November 20, 2025 to May 9, 2026.
