The Musée de la Résistance et de la Déportation offers a lecture entitled "Regina Felsen-Torn and her companions in misfortune. A history of the Rieucros internment camp" as part of its annual Mercredis du Musée series.
Rieucros interned men, then women, who bore the imprint of Europe?s revolts and conflicts since the beginning of the 20th century. After the declaration of war, and until mid-February 1942, almost a thousand women were arbitrarily escorted to the camp.
29 nationalities were interned, with Germans, Spaniards, Poles and French the most numerous.
Portraits of the women interned, together with photographs and watercolors, will illustrate the history of persecution in France and the "ordinary political strength" of women unjustly deprived of their freedom.
The presentation of Regina Felsen-Torn?s diary will illustrate this in particular.
The lecture will be given by Michèle Descolonges. A sociologist, her research on the Rieucros internment camp began in 2015 and has led her to publish several articles and books. She is a member of the Pour le souvenir du camp de Rieucros association and the Histoire et mémoires du camp de Brens association.
She coordinated the scientific advisory board of the Rieucros Camp Memorial, due to open in 2023.
