Don't miss the "HENRI COMBY" exhibition, from September 03 to December 31 2025 at the Musée d'Art Brut in Montpellier.
here's a summary of the text:
Comby, a native of Le Puy-en-Velay, drew his inspiration from his family?s charcuterie, the volcanic landscapes of the Auvergne and Romanesque sacred art. Trained at the Jean Deyrolle studio (Académie Fernand Léger), he settled in the Var region of France in the late 1950s after a period of travel. Always in search of new materials and modes of expression, he nevertheless retained recurring themes: faith in man, his contradictions, death, war and howling, which brought him closer to Art Singulier and Art Brut. In 1988, he founded the art workshop at the Henri Guérin Psychiatric Center in Pierrefeu.
An unclassifiable artist, he took part in major salons (Jeune Sculpture, Salon de Mai, Réalités Nouvelles) and exhibited at the Musée de l?Annonciade (1981), the Musée Saint Pierre in Lyon (1986), the Musée d?Art de Toulon (2002) and several renowned galleries.
Tip: Free admission to the Musée d'Art Brut with the Tourist Office City Card!
Closed Mondays, Tuesdays and public holidays.
