EXPOSITION "PANAGAUDOPOLE" - SOLÈNE UNTEREINER

  • Exhibition
L'Espace Saint-Ravy Place Saint-Ravy, 34000 Montpellier
From February 7 to March 1, 2026, Espace Saint-Ravy is delighted to host the Panagaudopole exhibition, featuring a selection of works by artist Solène Untereiner.

Through these, the artist explores the fragility of memory and the persistence of forms, between what melts, transforms and what resists. Her creations invite visitors to question collective beliefs and the way in which history is told, frozen and staged.

Panagaudopole borrows its title from a deleted chapter of Gustave Flaubert?s Madame Bovary, in which the meticulous description of a toy becomes the mirror of an entire city. Based on this principle of mise en abyme, the exhibition takes us on a journey through the mythical, literary and political narratives that shape the way we write history and represent ourselves collectively.

First transmitted by word of mouth, then fixed in writing, myths form the bedrock of our European cultures. They recount the origins of worlds as much as they expose the social, political and cultural issues that run through societies. From Dante?s Divine Comedy, a vast moral architecture that orders souls according to cosmic law, to Faust, the modern incarnation of the desire for knowledge and power, these tales set the stage for symbolic spaces where collective memory and historical responsibility play out.

Conceived as an imaginary and symbolic place, the exhibition features installations, sculptures and paintings. These works interact to compose a fictitious architecture, between décor and ruin, transparency and opacity, hollows and solids.

Combining ancient, literary and urban references, Panagaudopole questions the blurred boundary between history and fiction, monument and illusion, memory and staging. So what do we really see? What do we choose to show? And how do we write history?
