Documentary cinema, often perceived as a demanding genre reserved for an adult audience, remains largely unknown to young viewers. And yet, children are the most curious of all, capable of observing and questioning the world around them.
It is on this conviction that Les Grands Yeux was created. Rather than setting up a children?s section in an existing festival, we made the bold choice to design our entire program for them, right from the start. The films we select are not necessarily created for a young audience, but they invite children to take an enlightened look at the realities of the world.
This festival goes further than a simple screening: each screening is followed by fun mediation moments - workshops, games, meetings - to feed their curiosity and turn each viewing into an entertaining learning experience. Even the guest filmmakers get in on the fun by taking part in interactive quizzes. Last but not least, our festival jury is made up exclusively of children, because it's they who must judge what moves and inspires them.
