The Montpellier Confucius Institute is founded by an agreement between UM2 and the headquarters of the Confucius Institutes in Beijing, the Hanban, signed on 26 April 2013 in Beijing.
The city of Montpellier, the Rectorat, the University of Montpellier, Paul-Valéry University, Montpellier3 and the University of Science and Technology of China in Chengdu are partners and co-founders of the institute.
The role of the institute is to enable a wide range of people - children, adults and anyone interested in China - to learn the Chinese language and become familiar with Chinese culture.
The institute offers Chinese language courses and regularly organises cultural activities in the area.
