Corporate Social Responsibility Our CSR approach

Environmental and social commitments

The Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole Convention and Visitors Bureau is certified to ISO 20 121: Responsible management systems for events.

The aim of this standard is to put in place a set of procedures to identify the key sustainable development issues that apply to our activities and, on the basis of a broad diagnosis, to design and implement a structured CSR action plan that is managed and evaluated in the light of the following sustainable development principles: duty of care, duty of inclusion, integrity and transparency.

MONTPELLIER MEDITERRANEE AN ASSERTED DETERMINATION

Committed for more than 20 years to a global approach to continuous improvement, we want to pursue our development in a sustainable way, with a view to reducing the negative impacts of our activities, whether social, economic or environmental.

Reducing our negative impacts is all well and good, but generating positive impacts that benefit everyone and our region as a whole is even better!

France is the world’s No. 1 tourist destination, with almost 90 million international tourists. It’s a cross-cutting sector that touches on many areas: food, mobility, energy, adapting to climate change, and many economic sectors: catering, accommodation, transport, leisure, conferences, events, etc.

At a time when the challenges facing the leisure and business tourism sector are changing, we have chosen to adopt a resolutely sustainable approach. ISO 20121 certification is an international recognition of our commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and events practices, while actively involving all our stakeholders.

We intend to meet this challenge with :

  • The collective and political will
  • The involvement of socio-professional and institutional partners
  • The contribution and dynamism of our teams
  • The involvement of tourists, visitors and local residents

Our CSR policy: 12 OBJECTIVES FOCUSED ON 2 MAJOR PRIORITIES

More than a corporate project, it is a destination project that we intend to carry out over the long term.

WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?  CSR AND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Concepts

Did you know?

  • In France, the tourism sector is responsible for 11% of the country’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
  • Travel alone accounts for 77% of greenhouse gas emissions. This is followed by: accommodation, catering, purchases (consumer goods, souvenirs, etc.)
  • 95% of tourists are concentrated in just 5% of the areas that can be visited… the result is an ‘overpopulation’ that weakens these areas.

A territory recognised for its sustainable policies

Faced with the climate emergency and the economic and health crisis, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole is pursuing an ambitious policy to accelerate the region’s ecological and solidarity-based transition.

Today, a profound change in outlook, accelerated by the crisis, is taking place within the economic world and is tending to support and promote ‘impact companies’, those that are taking the ‘turning point’ in the transition.

The Trophée d’Or 2023 awarded to the Metropole of Montpellier at the 2nd Sustainable Transformation Summit (October 2023), for its adaptation to climate change: strategies, challenges and implications, rewards the concrete actions implemented over the years.
