Discover all the commitments made by the Montpellier Méditerranée Tourist Office &  Convention Bureau in terms of quality, accessibility, and sustainable development.

ISO 20121 CERTIFICATION

The Tourist Office & Convention Bureau of Montpellier sought recognition for its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) approach through the ISO 20121 certification, a leading standard for the events industry.

It applies to all types of events, whether recurring or one-off: sports competitions, exhibitions, seminars, festivals, and more  as well as to agencies, service providers, local authorities, and tourism professionals.

It demonstrates sustainable event management, covering areas such as water and energy consumption, supplier selection, and workplace health and safety.

This international standard aims to establish a set of procedures for identifying the key sustainable development challenges relevant to our activities, and based on a broad diagnostic assessment, to design and implement a structured, monitored, and evaluated CSR action plan guided by the following sustainability principles: due diligence, inclusion, integrity, and transparency.

THE QUALITÉ TOURISME™ MARK (QUALITY TOURISM)

To continuously raise the standard of hospitality and tourism services across France, the French government created the QUALITÉ TOURISME™ mark.

This mark brings together, under a single recognisable symbol, quality initiatives focused on customer satisfaction across hotels, holiday residences, holiday villages, campsites, restaurants, cafés and brasseries, seasonal rental agencies, tourist offices, visitor attractions, and sports and leisure activities.

Its purpose is to provide visitors with a trusted benchmark, helping them confidently choose establishments that deliver quality services.

The Qualité Tourisme brand will be phased out on 31 December 2026 and replaced by the Destination D’Excellence label. Compliance measures are currently underway.

Through the Qualité Tourisme™ label, the government and tourism industry professionals are committed to :

  1. A warm welcome
  2. Attentive staff
  3. Foreign language proficiency
  4. Personalised services
  5. Clear and precise information
  6. Cleanliness and comfort
  7. Local destination expertise
  8. Consideration of customer feedback

OUR QUALITY POLICY

  • Keep our commitment
  • Satisfy all our customers
  • Working with engaged local professionals and partners
  • Upholding the values of the Montpellier Méditerranée territory
  • Build and evaluate our strategic policy
  • Being a recognised tourist office and congress centre

The Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole Tourist Office & Convention Bureau is classified as Category 1, holds the ‘Tourisme & Handicap’ label (Tourism and disability), and is recognised with the Qualité Tourisme mark.

Our quality review is part of a voluntary, ongoing commitment to improving visitor satisfaction, while raising awareness among our professional and institutional partners across the region.

CATEGORY 1 CLASSIFICATION

The Tourist Office classification system ensures consistency and a uniform standard of services offered to visitors across holiday destinations throughout France.

Established by the French Ministry of Tourism, the system includes two categories: Category I (the highest) and Category II.

A Category II classification allows the municipalities within the tourist office’s remit to receive the designation of commune touristique (tourist town), while a Category I classification grants access to the station de tourisme designation, the highest recognition for outstanding visitor hospitality.

Key commitments under this classification include:

  • Provide an easily accessible welcome area and information desk.
  • Having a dedicated travel advisor on hand and offering high-quality information
  • Facilitate tourists’ procedures.
  • Providing free information on local tourism offerings
  • Commit to an internal quality approach.
  • Handling complaints and measuring visitor satisfaction

"TOURISME & HANDICAP" LABEL (Tourism and disability)

This label reflects the Tourist Office’s concrete commitment and guarantees an effective, accessible welcome for visitors with disabilities.

The logo, displayed at the entrance to tourism sites, facilities, and venues, provides people with disabilities clear, consistent, and reliable information about accessibility based on the type of disability.

The Montpellier Comédie Tourist Office holds the label for all four disability categories: hearing, cognitive, motor, and visual. Adapted services are available across our Tourist Information Points (BITs)

AGAINST STREET HARASSMENT: ASK ANGELA

Did you know? In France, 86% of women have experienced at least one form of sexual assault or harassment in public spaces during their lifetime, according to a 2018 study by the Fondation Jean Jaurès. In 2021, 94% of reported sexual violence victims in Montpellier were women (source: DDSP34).

The « Angela – Ask Angela » initiative, launched by the French Government in 2020, aims to build a safe and supportive of venues equipped to assist and protect people experiencing street harassment. By joining the scheme, participating establishments commit to upholding a charter of support, information, and communication principles.

Our travel advisors are now trained to welcome anyone who has experienced street harassment or felt unsafe in a public space (including verbal abuse, insults, harassment, or sexual assault). They are trained to assess the person’s needs, ensure their immediate safety, offer a discreet emergency refuge space, and provide initial assistance.

Committed to the well-being, health, and safety of its visitors, and to promoting inclusion and non-discrimination, the Tourist & Convention Office was proud to strengthen Montpellier’s network of safe refuge venues. This commitment has been in place since 22 July 2024.

The Angela initiative is developed nationally and recognized internationally.
