Don't miss the major temporary exhibition at the Musée Fabre! Dedicated to Pierre Soulages
The encounter
The international reputation of Pierre Soulages is well established. Until his death in 2022, he was the most popular living French artist on the world art market. Since the early 1950s, his works have been part of major public collections in Europe and the United States. Over the course of his eight-decade career, Pierre Soulages has had numerous solo exhibitions, including major retrospectives at the Centre Pompidou (in 1979 and 2009). Among the most recent, "Soulages. Malerei 1946-2019" in Baden-Baden and Chemnitz in 2020-2021, "Soulages au Louvre" in 2019, and "Soulages ? une rétrospective" at the Fondation Pierre Gianadda in Martigny, Switzerland, in 2018.
The exhibition will occupy the entire 850m² temporary exhibition space and will continue in Room 48 on the second floor, before inviting visitors to end their visit on the 2nd floor, in the museum?s last remaining Soulages room.
The tour will be rounded off by a number of film and media presentations, in the same vein as the Germaine Richier exhibition: a 1981 film by Jean-Michel Meurice will be shown, accompanied by a media room for all audiences. An immersive 15-minute film with virtual reality headset will be available on reservation, allowing viewers to enter the genealogy of Pierre Soulages? work and the material of his painting, to the sound of his voice.
The exhibition will feature over a hundred works, mainly canvases and paintings on paper, copper and bronze, as well as a rich photographic collection.
Tuesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
