Don Giovanni KV527 is a dramma giocoso in two acts, first performed in Prague on October 29, 1787, to a libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte inspired by the myth of Don Juan.
A devilish seducer who defies both God and society, Don Giovanni has become the symbol of the libertine, with his formidable vital force for some, and his profane and deceitful cynicism for others. The man of power combines all his failings and has fascinated artists and audiences alike since his creation by Tirso de Molina and Molière, closely followed in Prague in 1787 by Mozart and da Ponte. These two creators established the myth and gave lyric art its first hero transcending the ages. Director Agnès Jaoui achieves a rare balance between comedy and drama, heightening the expressive power of the work and bringing a fresh vision to the characters. A dazzling array of soloists brings to life this new co-production from no less than three French opera houses. A production not to be missed under any circumstances!
