Cosmopolitan, cultural and surprising.
My favourite district
L’Ecusson. Montpellier’s historic centre, which is mainly pedestrianised and where you can stroll, enjoy the cultural sights, go shopping, spend a festive evening… A labyrinth of little streets leading to magnificent places like the Arc de Triomphe, the Cathedral and the former Faculty of Medicine or the Place royale du Peyrou…. Surprise guaranteed!
My local tip
A lazy afternoon on the shores of the Grande Bleue. Just 11km from Montpellier, the Mediterranean is easy to get to (by bike, public transport, etc.) and you’ll find unspoilt countryside and fine sandy beaches. People go to the sea all year round to swim, sunbathe, go for long walks, have a drink with their feet in the sand, or to practise sports: sea kayaking, stand-up paddle, kite surfing…

Creative, young and sunny.
My favourite district
The Rives du Lez district. Between relaxation and wine-tasting on the banks of the Lez and events like FISE, this is a growing district that’s always lively and friendly.
My local tip
A trip to Lac du Salagou. Around forty minutes from Montpellier, this red-water lake, surrounded by ochre earth and extinct volcanoes, offers breathtaking scenery. Ideal for a hike, a picnic or even a swim in a spectacular and relatively unspoilt setting.
