Some images never fade. They insist. They return, like a flutter behind the eyelids.
Mr. Chat's smile belongs to this rare category: an apparition that persists. Not as a repeated motif, but as an active imprint. A presence that is replayed, shifted and transformed without ever dissolving. For M.Chat is no mere icon, this yellow feline, ostensibly laughing, almost too legible to be innocent.
He is a strategy of the gaze. A way of gently breaking into reality, of cracking the surface of things with a lightness that excludes neither tension nor depth.
Behind the obviousness of a smile, something resists
At Galerie Laurent Rigail in Montpellier, the exhibition is not a hanging, but an installation in the full sense of the word: a shift in regime. The cat no longer appears, but stays. It no longer imposes itself in the speed of the urban world, but composes with duration.
