Description
As part of the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier
Schubert died in 1828, at the age of thirty-one, and it seems that he gave of his best in the last months of his life. The vast cycle of twenty-four Lieder entitled Winter Journey dates from 1827, and is both a self-portrait of the musician in search of himself, and a dramatic plunge into an intimate genre.
Here, Schubert enlarges the miniature, turning each lied into an increasingly poignant stage: solitude, revolt, sarcasm, despondency, all moods pass through these twenty-four beacons of a soul in distress, which crosses paths with a raven, a hurdy-gurdy player, a lime tree, a young girl? and at the end, something that is death and transfiguration.
Le Voyage d?hiver is a dream itinerary for a warm, lyrical baritone voice: with his double and accomplice Mikhail Pletnev, Matthias Goerne is bound to transport us.
