Description

OPEN AIR AS PART OF PRIDE WEEK 2026 The K-waï collective was born in sunny Montpellier. It's a queer, multi-disciplinary collective of artists and other wai-freaks, founded by LW2 & LA FRAISE in 2023. Kawai, pronounced [kawaii], is a Japanese adjective meaning "cute". And the word "waï" comes from slang from Marseille and Provence, meaning "the brothel". The play on words emphasizes the collective's desire to bring a festive spirit as powerful as it is benevolent. K-waï is the desire to bring an underground, experimental yet accessible dimension to the public. K-waï was formed through the practice of djing, but wishes to retain its varied artistic scope. Its members combine various talents: dance, African percussion, singing, live performance, mapping, painting and graphic arts. Their aim is to create festive and cultural spaces and events, for exchange, creation and experimentation, with an emphasis on both established and new artists, convinced that gatekeeping and elitism in festivities and art must be limited. K-waï asserts the right to artistic experimentation, breaking down the barriers of pre-established styles. In short, the K-waï collective is resolutely focused on a more inclusive and freer future for festivities and culture in France, with a particular emphasis on emerging artists and those from minority backgrounds. LW2, LA FRAISE and SATINE are all very different, but all love intense rhythms and strong universes. Whether through DJ sets or live performances, they want to share their vision of partying and music. They come together through a wide variety of musical genres from all over the world, with the sole promise of getting the audience bouncing, by offering an unprecedented fusion of genres. From 1 EBM to ultra-percussive bass music and experimental Afro, it's a journey out of the ordinary, with intensity as the common thread. Wherever they've gone, they've set their audiences on fire, transporting them from one universe to another while retaining their DNA: an almost violent energy that leaves no one unmoved.
